How Much Does It Take To Survive A War?
A soul or two
A parent or two
A neighbor or a few
Couple reshapes to make it through?
Then you’ll have the eyes to see
Behind the scenes;
Under the bombs’ cloud that swallowed the streets.
A kid still crying,
Another confused,
Looking for their mom
In the blood stew.
Because that was you, too.
You’ll see beyond the fancy chairs,
The suits and signatures.
There was a mom,
Who made the last meal,
Who packed the last lunch,
Tied her kid’s shoe.
Not knowing it was for the last time, too.
Her small kid turned orphan
Before they learn to chew.
A dad
Going home no groceries, face blue.
A whole family
In mourning
Or two
Because the favorite cousin
Died with the mom, too.
You get out of war
But does war get out of you?
Is it happening again,
Or just a plane that flew?
